Two books that we highly recommended last year to our Magic Years families are Permission to Parent—How to Raise your Child with Love and Limits by Robin Berman, M.D. and The Big Disconnect—Protecting Childhood and Family Relationships in the Digital Age by Catherine Steiner-Adair, EdD. We have purchased several copies of each and would by happy to loan them out to any parents who are interested in reading them. Let us know if you would like to borrow either of them.

The Big Disconnect—Protecting Childhood and Family Relationships in the Digital Age.  It is written by Catherine Steiner-Adair, Ed.D, an internationally recognized clinical psychologist, school consultant, and author.

Permission to Parent: How to Raise Your Child with Love and Limits:  Children used to be seen and not heard. Now they are the center of their parents’ universe.  Using her clinical experience, psychiatrist Robin Berman shows parents how they can take charge while building a loving family with deep connections.  How children learn love and respect at home becomes the template for how they show love and respect in life. It’s a huge task, but Dr. Berman is your ally every step of the way.

Punished by Rewards:  Alfie Kohn shows that while manipulating children with incentives seems to work in the short run, it is a strategy that ultimately fails and even does lasting harm.
